History of smudging

Smudging is a sacred cultural and spiritual practice in many Indigenous communities, passed down through generations. Traditions and protocols vary between Nations, and not all Indigenous communities practise smudging. 

How to use

Place the bundle in a heatproof dish. Light the tip briefly, then gently blow out the flame so it smoulders. Guide the smoke as desired, with a window open; extinguish it fully in sand or a fireproof dish. Never leave a smouldering bundle unattended.
